Business Intelligence (BI) Developer at TierPM
About Dave: I was born and raised in Orlando, FL and still reside there. I have worked for a logistics company for over 20 years and the healthcare industry for 10 years. I love to share my knowledge and teach wherever I go. Most recently, I joined the TierPM team as a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer.
Q: Describe your current position
A: I am the Business Intelligence Developer at TierPM. I leverage software tools to transform data into useful insights. I analyze data sets and present analytical findings in reports, summaries, dashboards, graphs, charts, and maps to provide users with detailed intelligence about the state of the business.
Q: What do you love about your current job?
A: I enjoy the process of taking data and creating visuals that help companies make decisions about how they are performing as well as leveraging analytics to assist in making forecasting choices.
Q: What made you choose the career path you have today?
A: I have always been a computer geek and have been in technology for over 30 years. After many years in the field, I found that working with databases, reporting and programming seem to make me the happiest and conform to my personality the best.
Q: What was the first job you had and what did you learn from it?
A: I worked as a Bag Boy at Albertsons Supermarket. It was a great place to work and was very busy. I learned how to bag groceries very quickly and efficiently while making sure to always be pleasant to the customer and other employees. I think a lot of the habits I learned from there shaped my future career path.
Q: Did you meet anyone along the way that made an impact on you and your career path?
A: It is going to sound cliché but that would be my mom. My mom worked at the same job for a Defense Contractor for 54 years. She taught me by example to have a hard work ethic and how a good and organized routine can get you through the day.
Q: What is something about Power BI and data analytics that most people don’t know?
A: Most think Power BI is mainly a reporting tool. Although it does have that feature, there are many more functions of Power BI that make it even a more powerful tool. For example, Power BI has built in analytics that can explain gaps in data, the ability to collaborate on reports and a robust portal that allows organization and sharing of dashboards, reports, datasets and workflows.
Q: What is something that folks would be surprised to learn about you?
A: I love to do karaoke to most 80’s music!
