Engaging the Next Generation of Women in AV

A panel hosted by the AVIXA Women’s Council of LA and Pasadena City College

On Thursday, October 24th the AVIXA Women’s Council of Los Angelos collaborated with Pasadena City College to host an event focused on engaging the next generation of women in the audio visual industry. The event was held at the Robert G. Freeman Center for Career and Completion at Pasadena City College and welcomed over 40 students, members of the She Codes organization and local audio visual companies.

The event featured a panel held by moderator Yajaira De La Paz, Job Developer at Pasadena City College and panelists Cory Scheaffer of QSC, Elizabeth Selinger of Extron, Diana Theron of Cibola Systems, and Maura Quinn of TierPM. A variety of topics were covered starting with each panelist’s personal experience entering the audio visual industry, rewards and challenges of their careers, the most important skills current students should cultivate, the future of the A/V industry, and any advice each panelist had to offer.

“The panel was a great success. I had a wonderful time sharing my own experience, values, important skillsets, and advice to the female students of Pasadena City College. It was very empowering to gain insight from the other women of AVIXA on the panel as well. I hope this event inspires young women to get involved with the industry and for other women in av to follow suit in sharing their insight and experiences as well.”

After the panel concluded, students were encouraged to network with the AVIXA Women’s Council to expand their professional networking skills as well as ask any questions that came up during the panel.
