Audio Visual Spotlight: Dayna Finizio

“My name is Dayna Finizio (Baumann) and simply put, you will always find me in a position where I’ll be putting forth my best effort to help others or just put a smile on their face. I am typically pretty even-keeled all around, though my two favorite things are extremes; that is, summer/the beach and Christmas. I recently got married last summer and am loving life, while hoping my next professional move compliments this new chapter for me.” – Dayna Finizio (Baumann)
What are you passionate about?
I am most passionate about helping others, brightening their day, making their life easier whether personally or professionally and being deeply rooted within a support system with those who I work closely with or through a more extended reach.

When and how did you first learn about the audio visual industry?
I first learned about A/V almost five years ago when I was looking for a new opportunity to advance my career, while also expanding my knowledge and experience with a completely new adventure. It was scary at first, but I’ve always done my best to “keep up” where possible.

What is a unique skill of yours that not many people know about?
Hmm, that is a tough question as I generally am an open book and try to show I am just doing my best in everything I do. I suppose getting people to open up by making them feel comfortable enough to do so could be considered a unique skill, and that at almost any stage of our “relationship “, they can always feel like a friend at the very least.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
I’ve received lots of great and appreciated advice over the years from colleagues, and especially as I jumped head first into a new and unfamiliar industry. I would say the best piece of advice was to just remember at the end of the day, most are working for a common goal (no matter what field or profession you are in), so just put your best foot forward knowing your individual strengths will help contribute to the overall goal or success seeking to be achieved.

Tell us about your involvement with the AVIXA Women’s Council, how you got involved and all of the great work you’ve put into it thus far.
I am an active member of the AVIXA Women’s Council and also a local leader for the NYC/Metro group (with the awesome Gina Sansivero and Lainie Mataras). I realized this was a way to tie into my passion of being involved in a support system for helping others and a chance to build up not only women’s influence in the industry but also my own growth through inspiration received.
Gina asked if I could be co-leader with her almost three years ago and knowing we would be (and have been) a great duo, I have been involved at this level ever since. Lainie has recently joined us, now making a fabulous trio! Our quarterly events/meetings plus collaborative calls more frequently have led to successful turnouts, group member growth and with that comes the ultimate product of our work, that is empowering women (and others) to reach new strengths, confidence, and accomplishments within the industry.

What advice would you give to women interested in entering the tech / audio visual industry?
I would tell women newly entering the industry not to be afraid to take the leap and know that whether through your particular company/team or especially through an organized group like the AVIXA Women’s Council, you will have cheerleaders (male and female alike) to help you climb and explore wherever you want to go.

Looking ahead, where do you see your next career path evolving?
I think I will always want to remain and thrive in areas of customer relations/client success, where relationship building and service is prominent to achieve desired results, whether externally through business development or even internally as a valued team resource. I am open to what that next local (Northeast) NJ or remote opportunity may be where I can serve in that capacity giving 100% effort, and where also now work/life balance has become increasingly a priority as I’ve also entered a new chapter in my life personally as well.
